It's the "Oh look at that" strategy developed by the higher primate species, the 3 Stooges.
We've got to learn to throw up a block folks. We're smarter than this, I can't lose my faith in our people just yet.
We tried this many years ago with JFK and they took it away, and kept scaring us....
That was then...
VOTE! Tell EVERY pissed off person you know to do the same. This is still better than any alternative we can fantasize about.

YOU are SO RIGHT!!!
Thanks for making my day

I couldn't agree more. You are absolutely right on target! Politics in this country, at this moment in history, have nothing to do with the truth and everything to do with distractions. Nobody wants to be seen with their hand in the cookie jar - or the taxpayer's pockets - but that's exactly where they are.
Gas prices are only obscene to me because of the excessive profits being raked in by the oil companies. If gasoline really costs them $4 to refine, then I'll understand paying $5 at the pump. But when I see record quarterly profits being reported, over and over again... just makes me sick. These mega corporations are raping the American people, while our government quietly takes their cut and does nothing!
As I wrote earlier today on Angie's blog, none of the candidates running in the two major parties, regardless of how much they want to get on their stumps and preach about change, will actually accomplish any of the things they promise. Why? Because the president doesn’t make the laws, the congress does. And the congress in this country, at this moment in history, is so bogged down in political correctness and the diligent maintaining of distinct “party lines” that no one could be elected as president and really make any difference.
As for the war in Iraq, we should have done our homework a little better before committing ourselves over there. And the Dem's are right when the frequently point to the fact that there is no exit strategy. There's no exit strategy because there's no intention of ever leaving! They've got the oil. We want the oil. Case closed. Has our national integrity suffered? Absolutely. Do the people making all the money off of the Iraq war care? Absolutely not! While we should be more involved in funding relief efforts in Burma and Darfur, such efforts aren't profitable... so we stay in Iraq and sell some more stories of terrorism on the nightly news.
Like you said... that's just sad. Sad, but true.
Excellent post!
